I woke up feeling much better about everything on Day Three... I just felt like we were going to catch up quite a bit today, and when I really thought about it, I was really happy with the stuff we did shoot on Tuesday (even though it wasn’t a lot). So, it was with high hopes that I drove over to Central City Studios. And this turned out to be a really great day.
As for the broken workstation... well, we removed the busted door, filled it with some medical/lab stuff, and we were good to go. It ended up looking great. The downside, of course, is that we can’t use any of the shots from the night before... but given the mood, that’s for the best anyway. So, Tuesday night served as sort of a warmup for shooting the same scene again on Wednesday, something that I think was a blessing in disguise, because everything about the way the scene went on Wednesday was vastly better than it would have been had we kept going on Tuesday night. So, things were looking up already.
This was also the first day Doug Jones was on set, and I know this blog is turning into a big love fest here, but man, talk about one of the nicest people on the planet. Especially given the amount of success he’s had (he didn’t have to help us out at all), it’s nice to meet someone who’s so successful but also incredibly grounded and friendly. And very funny, to boot. It was great having Doug on set on this day, and he gave a very funny performance.
This was also the first day we had Laura, our very talented makeup artist, on set (we had two others on the previous two days), and she did a great job for the rest of the shoot.
The rest of the day was pretty much uneventful... and by that I mean things went extremely smoothly. All our fears from the previous day were put to rest as we got all the shots we needed, and got caught up on many of the shots we hadn’t gotten to the day before (22 shots in total! As compared to 5 the day before). And, I didn’t feel like we rushed at all... I was really happy with everything we shot that day. Basically, it was the day we really needed... we gelled as a crew and it was kind of the turning point for the shoot. It set the tone for all the other days.
We were in the main lab set all day long, and it looked great, both in set design and lighting. I was very happy, if you can’t tell. Everybody did a great job. Sorry there wasn’t any real drama or excitement to report on this day, I feel like this blog was a little bit boring, so... then a GIANT COCKROACH ATTACKED and we fought him off with our CRAZY SUPER POWERS!!!11!!!! The end.
