Money is probably my least favorite thing about film. It’s why I’m not a producer. Well, there are a lot of other reasons, like the fact that I hate doing the things producer’s have to do, and the fact that I’m terrible at it, but still. If I could just write and make movies without having to worry about the money, I’d be a very happy man. But then, so would every other writer and director in the world. The problem is, that seems to be unrealistic. I don’t know why, I don’t understand why the world can’t just give me all the money I need with a smile. But it doesn’t seem to want to for some reason.
I also don’t want to have to beg ask for money, but unfortunately, at least on this project, I have to do it. Many of you have been extremely generous in your donations, and we really, really appreciate it. But we’re nowhere close to how much money we need to shoot this film, and we’re getting closer to our shoot date every day. As it stands, we’re putting about 5 times as much of our own money (in loans) into the film as we’ve been donated. And even that isn’t enough money. We still need a decent amount more. The script has dropped from 34 pages to 20 pages, in part because we can’t afford to do the original full script and we’re having to chop it down. Now, there’s a lot of other reasons for cutting, and ultimately, I think the script is better for it (as far as making a short film goes), but money plays into it. We’re having to drop the budget considerably, and we’re already cutting corners in the production so we can make this thing at all.
Ok, boo hoo, big sob story. True, but I just want everyone to realize that we can’t do this without a lot more of your help. This may or may not mean a lot, but this is a real investment in our future and in future films that we’ll make. That’s basically what it boils down to. We have one shot at this, one chance to really burst into Hollywood, and we need to make this film the best it can absolutely be. We’re putting in all the effort that we can, but unfortunately, our efforts just aren’t enough. We need you as well.
Alright, guilt trip over. If you can’t or don’t want to donate, I’m sure this hasn’t changed your mind, and that’s fine, I totally understand (and we don’t think any less of you, I promise ;)). However, everyone else, I just want to make sure you know that although things are going really well as far as the production goes, things have slowed drastically as far as money goes, and we really need your help. Even if it’s just 10 dollars, it helps. Of course large donations are always welcome as well, but we’ll take anything you can afford.
Ok, I hate doing that... I feel like I’m doing a Jerry Lewis Telethon for a much, much less important cause. But, yeah. If you’d like to donate you’ll be our favorite person ever and as always, and donations over 1000 dollars will get you an Executive Producer credit. And of course, and donation, besides just being an investment in our future, will also get you credit in the film and a copy of the finished product. We love and appreciate all of you, and thank you all so much for your help and support. You can donate online at the DONATE page, or you can send us a check at:
